Course Overview

This qualification builds essential knowledge in three critical areas:

  1. Safeguarding
  2. Prevent Duty
  3. Online safety

It gives a clear understanding of legal responsibilities, how to recognise risk or abuse, and the right way to respond. Knowledge only, no workplace assessment required.

Assessment can be through a portfolio or multiple-choice test.

  • Your responsibilities under the duty

  • How extremist groups exploit those vulnerabilities

  • Warning signs and behaviours to watch for

  • How to reduce the risk of radicalisation

  • Referral and intervention processes (e.g. Channel)

  • How your actions affect investigations or court evidence

Focused on digital risk:

  • Dangers linked to illegal or inappropriate online behaviour

  • Online contact risks (grooming, coercion, exploitation)

  • Online content risks (misinformation, radicalisation, harm)

  • Acceptable Use Policies — workplace, home, learning environments

  • What happens when policies are ignored

  • Critical questioning online — who, what, why

  • Spotting concerning behaviour or changes in someone affected

  • Where to get support and report issues

You develop a full safeguarding mindset:

  • What safeguarding means and key legislation

  • The right for children and adults to stay safe

  • Safeguarding vs. child protection — the difference

  • Staff vetting processes (DBS etc.)

  • Local and national safeguarding frameworks

  • Roles of different agencies — social care, police, health etc.

  • Learning from serious case reviews

  • Types of abuse including:

    • Physical

    • Sexual

    • Emotional/psychological

    • Neglect

    • Domestic abuse

    • Sexual exploitation

    • FGM

    • Forced marriage

    • Financial abuse

    • Institutional abuse

    • Fabricated/induced illness

    • Self-neglect

  • Why people may not disclose

  • How to respond to concerns or disclosures

  • Confidentiality boundaries

  • How correct procedures protect both the individual and staff
